MGM Springfield gets extension for housing construction

THE POSTERS ARE EXPECTED TO STAY UP FOR SIX MONTHS. ASHLEY : SPRINGFIELD CITY COUNCILORS UNANIMOUSLY DECIDED MONDAY TO EXTEND THE DEADLINE FOR MGM SPRINGFIELD TO BUILD DOZENS OF NEW APARTMENTS IN THE CITY. COUNCILORS HAVE GIVEN MGM SPRINGFIELD UNTIL 2020 TO BUILD AT LEAST FIFTY-FOUR UNITS OF MARKET RATE HOUSING IN DOWTOWN SPRINGFIELD. THE UNITS HAVE TO BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN EIGHTEEN MONTHS AFTER THE DOWNTOWN CASINO OPENS ITS DOORS. THEY’RE PROPOSED TO BE BUILT IN A COURT SQUARE HISTORIC BLOCK ON ELM STREET. COUNCILOR MELVIN EDWARDS: ANY TIME THEY COME UP WITH A NEW PROPOSAL IT CREATES SOME DEGREE ON ANNEXED. I CAN ASSURE VOTERS RESIDENTS OF THE CITY THAT THE NUMBER OF UNITS HAS NOT CHANGED ESSENTIALLY THIS JUST GIVES THEM THE THIRTY MONTHS AND SETS THE CLOCK AT THIRTY MONTHS ONCE AGAIN AND I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE A BETTER BENEFIT. ASHLEY: SPRINGFIELD CITY COUNCILORS WANTED TO ENSURE THAT MGM FULFILLS ITS OBLIGATION TO BUILD FIFTY-FOUR
